Dr. Kim Batten
Dr. Batten has served individuals who struggle with anxiety and substance use concerns since 2012. A native of Alaska, she earned her bachelor’s degree from The University of Alaska Southeast in 2005. She later obtained her doctoral degree in clinical psychology at The University of Montana in 2011, graduating summa cum laude. While studying for her doctoral degree, she emphasized in working with children, adolescents, and families and researched coping in the aftermath of trauma. Since 2011, she’s proudly served veterans of our military forces who’ve survived trauma, including, but not limited to, combat trauma, loss of fellow soldiers, sexual assault, and childhood abuse (such as family violence, childhood sexual abuse, and/or childhood physical abuse).
Dr. Batten collaborates with her clients to establish treatment goals that move them toward recovery. Her approach varies based on her client’s needs, but she specializes in using evidence-based treatments, as they offer effective relief in a short amount of time. She often uses humor in therapy and those who’ve observed her work say that she’s intuitive, goal-oriented, client-centered, caring, and patient.
On a personal note, Dr. Batten applies the principles she uses in therapy and strives for balance at work and family. She and her family enjoy spending free time in nature, walking, hiking, or biking. She and her husband are passionate about marriage and family and co-teach lessons in their Family Life class at church on Sunday mornings and co-facilitate a ministry for church members seeking to overcome hurts, habits, or hang-ups on Wednesday evenings.
